WOO! There's an arcade about an hour away from me. Only thing is my pals and I are idiots and we got lost for about three hours. Doesn't matter though, I went in expecting them not to have it, but I noticed a group of Asians swarmed across an cabinet I've never seen before and I knew that was it. I couldn't even get a good view, it was swarmed. Mind you this was about 10 o clock, so it must have been busy all day. It really drew a huge crowd. One guy had a 20 win streak going with Iori. I don't think you can really appreciate how much of a monster Iori is until you've seen him played in this game. He's fucking SCARY. You never EVER want to get cought in one of his cross-ups.
Anyways, I inched my way in. I knew I was going to get whooped but I needed to play it anyway. I picked Guile, who has always been sort of a safety character for me. Now I see where people are coming from with the reports about the universal charge being fucked. It's not actually fucked, it's just that the timing is a bit different on the SNK side. It did kinda screw me up, but with practice I don't think it'll be a big issue. I did alright, lost with dignity I suppose. I came back later when there were only two other people playing, and it was cool since they were just fucking around with different characters, figuring out the combos. For some reason A LOT of the DM seem really hard to do. It could just be the timing again, I'm not sure.
The two times I won a round were with Dhalsim (YES) and Mr. Karate, who would be absolutely perfect if his DP had more priority. He's a powerhouse. I also think Dhalsim has potential. The no air block can throw some people off with his Yoga Flame and his anti-air Yoga Flame. The Yoga Flame actually hits three times, kind of has a slight "vacuum" effect to it if you jump into it. His speed is somewhere between Alpha 3 and CvS2. Only difference is a lot of his moves come out quicker. Those drill moves from the air come out FAST. Very fun to play as.
I also played as Bison (pyscho crusher) and Akuma. Again, I can't do the charge too well yet, so I kinda sucked it up with Bison. Also, his crusher is a bit weak looking this time around, but it's no big deal. I didn't like Akuma too much. His air fireballs took too long and I couldn't figure out his other DM's, or when I could do the Demon's Rage etc.
Most used characters were Iori, Ken, and Demitri <--could be the best in the game. He's right up there with Iori IMO.
I'll write more later, it's pretty late. Has anyone else played it yet?

You owe it to yourself to go again and provide us with more info. Ken and - to a lesser extent - Iori are somewhat dubious "top tier' characters; in my experience they're always mooted as the best fighters in a game upon it's release due to their ease of use. particually regarding damaging combos. They are inevitable downgraded in the eyes of players as the individual nuances of a game become known, and both tend to end up in upper mid/mid tier status. Time will tell in this iunstance I suppose.

Of course I'm going to give you more info, that's a given. Getting to that arcade is hard work though, I'm not sure how often I'll be able to go.
Yeah, of course the shoto's will dominate with the right people, but I saw some guy WHOOP a Ryu with Dhalsim. His anti-air moves are great now that there's no air blocking. He could really be a serious contender now.
The thing about this game is, I see all these fighting game "experts" whining about how it's not a tourney game or that it's nothing but a fireball/uppercut war. But these are the same people already trying to make up tiers, and they all contradict themselves, proving any opinions these people have void. The only thing they have in common is that they like to bitch.
For example, a couple people said nobody can defeat the shotos, while at the same time other people are saying the shotos are useless. Other contradictions include how this game has the best/worst Chun-Li, how Shiki can/can't compete, and that Choi is useless/pretty good.
This means two things: first off, we have to give it more time to even consider tiers. Second, I think this is a testament to how skill-driven this game is. People will undeniably pick their Ryus, Kens, Ioris, and Terrys...but they'll never expect someone to come along and own them all with some obscure character they all thought had no potential.

Some people generally just like moan and bitch about things, instead of looking for the positive aspects of a game. Nothing is ever perfect, but a lot of people seem to think everything should be Thanks for the write-up anyway... you know what? I'm actually looking forward to trying out some of the characters like Dhalsim, although I never thought I'd say that. This game just gets more and more interesting! Kaz

Yeah....from the first clip i saw with Dhalsim in it i went like....goddamn,even Dhalsim looks and sounds awesome.
But for some reason i always end up trying shit out with characters like Dhalsim and grapplers after i've played enough with the ussual pics like Ryu,Iori and co.

Yeah, well I guess I'll pick Ryu first... mainly for the thrill of playing as him on my Neo Geo... after that I'll start playing as some of the other slightly more obscure characters.

Yeah Kaz, I've always been a big Dhaslim fan. He was so cool in the original SF and then they kept toning him down. He was good in Alpha 3 then they toned him down AGAIN. But I think SNK really did him justice, I really think this is the Dhalsim Capcom wanted to make. I can pretty much say the same about Guile once I get used to the charging.
I didn't see ANY Earthquakes, Rebellion, sorry. I did try out and see some other characters, though. Sagat seemed good. He's definately not Cvs2 good, but he's good. Tiger Knee looks to be kinda deadly (you can still take people by suprise with the lack of air-blocking).
There was a Dan player too! He actually hit the guy with the Haohoken (sp?) or whatever. It's funny how little it travels, everyone was laughing at the fact it actually hit. He also appears to have Takuma's QCB+P move, though I'm guessing it probably doesn't autoguard.
I saw a Hugo just barely lose to an Iori. All those comments about him sucking are so wrong. He can be insanely good if you're quick with the joystick. He also has another DM where he drops down on you in a spiral motion. I think it was that, anyways, it was pretty hard to see.
What I really liked about the game was that it was just very intense. It plays a lot like KOF without a roll. Knowing there's no escape from some moves besides quick moving makes for a lot of tense matches and fake-outs.
But, I still think the best thing about it is it's bringing back out all the hardcore fans into the arcades. I haven't seen so many tokens lined up on a cabinet since MvC came out. It was beautiful.

I was very impressed by the animation on Dhalsim's limbs, the way they look rubbery, it is very cool indeed.
It's good to hear that so many people are playing it, it's great that Playmore is being so successful with this game!!! I'd be sooo happy if I could find an arcade here that had it.

My arcade ordered it from Hong Kong so it'll probably take forever to get here.

hey all i was walking around in hk and found an arcade and it had SVC. i took a while for me to try it out cause some guy was wasting everyone with iori. eventually i got to try. and if anything the cpu is pretty cheap. they would just sit back and launch projectiles. im a big ryo fan so i tried him first. hes bascially the same as his more recent stuff. i also tried shiki. shes cool but hard. she has some teleport move and a bunch of slashing combos but thats all i know for now. mr. karate seems to be really popular with some of the people playing. anyways thats all
