Roms in Neorage to work, winkawaks

Need some help here, I have been using neoragexp 0.8c for some time now, I have about 68 rom sets, that work great in this emulator. (I got them all from emureactor). I have several Questions. First how do I get them to work in winkawaks 1.49(I like this emulator more)? Some work, but most do not show up after I scan for the roms. I tried using clrmame pro to convert the names, but that only worked on a few. I just put them all back to neoragex format, so I can play them.
Are there just different versions of the same game that ONLY work on a particlar emu?
Also how do I get mslug5.zip or mslug5nd.zip to work, I have tried everything!!! All I get is a f+++ed up screen when the game starts, the intro screens are fine.

regarding the roms issue a lot of the games that worked in neorage won't work on kawaks for two reasons.first the one you answered yourself is there are a lot of different romsets for different emus....it's mainly that neorage can use these different ones but none of the others(kawaks,mame,nebula etc) can.the other one is that in kawaks 1.49 a lot of the games got redumped so a lot of the roms have changed inside the rom zip folders....so basically you need the most up to date romsets to use it.
all romsets are named according to whatever mame uses...and kawaks 1.49 was mainly an update to keep up with the update of mame.
for metal slug 5 you'll either need to find a new p rom that is compatible for neorage or use a hacked version of kawaks...this is called 1.46 with a loader....or 1.46hacked....do a google search to find it.this allows you to add you're own datfiles to make the newer games work.
