Hi all,
I've been downloading dozens of different versions of Metal Slug 4 and SVC Chaos for days now. I have so many and can't work out which ones are actually good. RomCenter doesn't have any updated .dats. The only one they have for Metal Slug 4 is a non-MAME one.
My emulator of choice is winkawaks. I could never get any of the 1.46 hacked versions to work. I'm using Windows 2000, so maybe that's the problem. I did get v1.45 working ok though.
There are so many versions, hacks etc for the above 2 games I'm totally lost as to if I have a proper version of not. I can get both games to play in kawaks but for peace of mind I want to know what I've got.

The non-mame File that you have only works with the Mame Version that is especially made for your MSlug5. That means that you gotta have to download the "mameslug5"! Which you can find on almost every RomSite.

You won't be able to download it from inside RomCenter because you are not suppose to be playing those games on the emulators yet. I think if you look at my post in: kof2k2 and mms4 on winkawaks? Thread that might answer your question. For the modified Winkawaks, the roms data are all in the asr.dat file located in WinKawaks root directory. Each rom is seperated by the "%" line. Open the asr.dat file in notepad and you'll see what I mean. As for version, from what I have seen: xxx = Rom is encrypted. xxxp = Rom prototype xxxn = Rom has decrypted C (Graphic) roms. xxxnd = Rom is fully decrypted (Graphic and Program). And then you have regions such as: u, e, and j u = USA e = Europe or early version (either or) j = japan There are more but that is just off the top of my head and they might not be fully correct either. Hope this helps some, Frugal.

thanks for your replies guys.
Throwen, I'm referring to MS4, not 5. I have 5 and am aware it is mame only. For 4 I have 3 different versions.
As far as the asr.day thing goes, well I have 7 different ones. I think I have 5 different versions for MS4. That's the 3 files I already have, plus the 2 different ones in the asr.dat files. I've been checking them all file by file for the CRC values and that's how I know I have different versions.
So I'm trying to work out just what version is the right one for winkawaks. My one seems to play ok, but i've got a few versions so you can see what I want to clear this up.
And since Romcenter doesn't have an updated .dat, that only leaves all you fine people here to help ;D.
I can post the crc values of the files I have. I was hoping this info was available already so I can verify what I have.
