Hey guys, im matt. I check this site probably once a week for neo geo info, but ive never signed up for an account before.
Im currently 19,living in canada. I first played neo-geo when I played kof 98 in arcades, and loved it. Most of my KOF playing has been in arcades (not a whole lot of competetion, most people play CvS2 or MvC2) and emulators. I also love metal slug, altough the only one I actually finished in arcades was MS3.
I buy every Xbox port SNK comes out with just to support them, even ithey arent great (SvC).
Im currently in college and my hobbies include eating mcdonalds and competitive powerlifting.

All I got to say is WOW! Just received my neo and have been playing with it for the past two hours and I must say that if I thought I was a NeoGeo fan before getting one of these, I was wrong because I now have more love for SNK and their wonderful machine more than ever before. What initially shocked me though when I first opened my parcel was how big the carts are, THEY ARE NEARLY AS BIG AS THE DREAMCAST!?! Half the thickness but width and length wise they are just smaller, incredible!! I bet your wondering what two games I put into the machine first aren't you? Well I decided to insert KOF '98 and Super Sidekicks 2 since they are probably my favorite out of the bunch that came with my supergun setup. Oh yeah and I bet this will make some of you English people smile, guess what I managed to obtain during a trip to my local Gamestation today?... A NEO GEO JOYSTICK and low and behold it was the same style as the stick I got with my supergun which are both "new style" if that means anything to you all? Well anyway I'm having a lot of fun playing on my MVS, I hope to get some more titles over the festive period and an interesting though has just come to me, I now own nearly all the KOF titles on various formats bar two, '99 and '03 doubt I'll be picking up any of those for a while specially since I just got me own version of '98, besides King of the Monsters, Samurai Showdown 2 and World Heroes 2 rank higher in the "fighting game" list before those titles mainly because I don;t have to many titles from their series in my collection. Well anyway it's nice talking to you all again but I'm now going off to play my supergun again... laters! edit: spelling!

I just got the word that is the US bios and that the system will be at my house before 5pm tommorow. Aperently there is a huge button to enter the dip switch mode (EDIT: it's the big red one lol) so hopfully I will be able to change it there although to be honest it really does not matter to me so much as long as I get to play the games I'm happy.

You never know, a lot of people use the uni-bios so it's possible I have a spare Neo stick that I'm willing to sell for reasonable price. Looks slightly scuffed but works fine - if you're interested let me know, otherwise I think I'm gonna Ebay it. Kaz

Actually yeah it looks like the two ports there are the ones that are on the MVS board already, so you'll be able to use standard Neo Geo sticks. Dunno if this will interest you, but there is also an adaptor that is available that lets you connect PS1/PS2 sticks and pads to a Neo Geo, so that might be worth bearing in mind. As for the uni-bios, it's still handy for changing regions and also between home console/arcade mode, but from the looks of things you'll probably have to unscrew the top part of your board to get to the bios; it's pretty easy, I did it with my 4 slot, but it depends on how comfortable you are with doing that on something that just cost you over £200. Well acording to the seller at (got this FAQ bit at the bottom)... "...It also has sockets for connecting 2 joysitcks so you can buy another joystick and play 2 player no problem." If you look at bottom right of pic you can se the two joystick ports which I'm guessing are the regular AES sockets that you find on must old multi-slotted MVS carts. (Well thats what I was lead to beleave anyway) Yeah guessing by the fact that it can handle a UK power supply I assume that this machine was once an English MVS cab. TBH I'm not really all that fussed (I can live without blood in KOF thx!) but I'm going to ask the seller that question anyway because it would be intrestingto know what bios it uses. Oh and thanks for you time and help Kaz', beleave it or not I already knew about the whole soft dip switch thing thanks to plenty of MAME experiance although I assume MAME already had that enabled? Anyway gotta order a joystick for this bad boy once it arrives in my house (gotta see if it's AES first, pretty sure it is but I don't want to waste £30 lol), nothing like playing KOF '98 with a friend whom is convinced that Andy Bogaurd is the man... he should learn the the real "man" is in fact Heidern lol.

Heya, Congrats on the purchase! That looks like a nice supergun, and I take it that it uses standard Neo Geo sticks that just plug directly into the MVS board itself? That is a pretty decent price too, especially with that collection of games, there's a TON of replay value in just a couple of those... like KOF '98, Samurai Shodown (although I'd grab SS2 pretty soon after you played that for a while and of course, Metal Slug X. Anyways, as for your question, on the Neo Geo the language settings are actually pre-determined by the console/mvs board itself on both home and arcade systems, not by the carts. For example, if you have a Japanese home console/MVS board, then any game you put on there will run in Japanese, even an American cart. It also works the other way around, so Japanese carts will run in English on American/European systems. The only exceptions to this rule are the quiz and mahjong games, as they are Japanese language only. There is a simple(ish) way around this with the MVS however. Now, I can't tell for certain what board you have exactly, but the majority of MVS boards have a socketed bios, which means it is easy to remove. What you can do is order something called the "uni-bios", which basically just plugs directly in place of the standard bios. Once that is in, you can access a menu that allows you to switch not only between Japanese/English language, but also allows you to change to home console mode, so in many games you can get access to extra options that wouldn't be available in arcade mode (eg practice and VS mode in the KOF games). You can do a lot of other stuff with it too, like cheat codes and more, so it is well worth having. For more info, check this: unibios.free.fr/I don't know if you know this, but I'll mention it anyways. Before you get the uni-bios, it's be worth noting that you can also access the soft dipswitch settings on the board, and change your difficulty and also enable blood in the Metal Slug/Samurai Shodown games. To do this, you'll need to check your MVS for a little block of switches, which should be somewhere on the edge of the board. Before you turn the MVS on, flip switch 1 on - then when you start up it will take you to a menu where you can change a few options. The main one you'll want to look at is "changing the soft dip settings", go to that, then select the name of the game you want to change settings for. Everything inside the next menu should be failry self explanatory. Once you have done that, press C a few times to get back to the main menu, and then go to exit. It will tell you to turn dipswitch one off, just flick the switch off and the game will start with the options you selected . It's worth noting that one or two games actually allow you to change language in the soft dip settings - but not all! If you fancy trying out the uni-bios, you can order one from Razoola on the site I mentioned. One thing though - if you just fancy testing one out before you buy it, I actually have a spare one lying around. It's quite an old one though, I think it's version 1.1 (the latest is 2.1), but seeing as I have no use for it I can give it to you for free. If you like the features on that, then you can order the latest version from Raz. Let me know Anyway, hope that helps, if you have any more questions let me know! Kaz
