Mika Scaare aka HexElf reporting in. I just got myself a real Neo Geo (Japanese import AES) the other week after what must have been nearly ten years of putting it on my wish list. Finally I was able to afford one for myself as well as a game so I've been playing it most of the time during my holidays, mostly due to my PS2 breaking appart just in time according to Murphy's Law, but of course I want more games to add t this expensive hobby.
Been an SNK fanatic ever since I had the chance to play KOF94 waaay back but it really hit when KOF98 arrived in the form of an emulated rom on my computer a few years back. I quickly decided that this was the best fighting game series of all time and I've been playing KOF games in all forms and shapes ever since. For variation my first game was a copy of World Heroes 2 Jet, one of the most amusing series (next to KOF of course) in my opinion and while I sorely miss the throw button and super cool death matches this was the one I used to play at the arcades when I was younger. I still haven't pulled the amazing feat of my senior competitors from back then of beating the game on a single credit but I'm getting very close.
Currently I'm studying in my native home Sweden to become a proffessional journalist / writer (so far I only worked semi-proffessionally) but without my spellchecker I'm not sure how well I come off as an English major hehe... I'm interested in writing reviews for this site actually so that I can finally give something back to SNK. And for something completely irrelevant I also own two cats, Zaki and Saga.
Bye for now

I like 2k2 quite a bit more. Sweet, 2k2 is definately the better game. As far as arcade hardware prices go i'm definately not your man but i can tell you that they're expensive as fuck. About ps2 modding, just last christmas i modded mine with a fliptop lid and swap magic discs. It's perfectly safe and extremely easy to install. Though you'll definately want to use a slim ps2 (import and backup games run perfectly on a slim ps2 but not always on an original model) even if it means buying one. $150 plus $30 to get your fiptop and discs is way easier then spending $300 plus for only the software if you go with an AW. One day if i can afford it i'm defiantely getting my own cab and stuff though.

Nice to meet you! I like 2k2 quite a bit more. I'm not completely into the tagging and of my regular team (Vanessa/Kula/Shermie) none are present in 2k3. I also dislike many of the characters introduced outside of Ash and maybe Malin. As for modding my ps2, is that really safe? I know that slidecards kill the laser but don't know much else. If nothing else, I might just pick one up used since I'm going to be in Japan a month from now anyway. And yeah, I'm drooling over Battle Coliseum! Oh yeah, one more question for you guys. Just out of curiosity, how much does an atomiswave usually go for? And how long, in general, do games retain their rediculous prices for it?

I know i'm kinda late for this but, welcome to the forums Out of curiosity, do you prefer kof 2k2 or 2k3? I recomend Samurai Showdown Tenka and Neo Geo BC ps2 ports from the games you mentioned. Unfortunately the DC isn't having SNKP games ported to it anymore and since they've gotten their shit together you should definately consider modding your ps2.

The first hori stick i showed you
(O)(O)(O)(O) (O)(O)(O)(O)
Has that button layout so its pretty perfect for the neo geo games. But if you mean the SC2 stick which only has 6 button layout then its not very good if your mainly playing neo games.
Its gonna be pretty tricky to find an original Garou for dreamcast. Would probably be best to get it "other" ways.

I've been studying Japanese for a while so I might pick up that version just for practice. If you guys ever need something translated, I might be able to figure it out for you. Feel free to ask and I'll give it a shot Again, you guys have been totally awesome. Your help is very much appreciated. Thank you!!!

Probably get the American one - the story will be in English and I don't think there are any other differences apart from it being called "Fatal Fury MOTW" instead of "Garou MOTW". Not sure what the difference in price between the two is though...
With the Hori stick, on the Soul Calibur one it just feels weird because normally on the Neo Geo you'd have 4 buttons in a line, whereas on the SC stick it's 2 columns of 3 buttons. It's perfectly useable, but I think the standard Neo Geo way is better. I tend to use the Neo Geo stick all the time for SNK games for the reason you said though... I am so used to using that stick on my Neo Geo that anything else feels wrong.
Then again, the Neo stick isn't any good for Street Fighter, because although it works well it only has 4 buttons - the L and R buttons are on there, but far too small to use in the heat of a battle, which is why I go back to the Hori stick for Capcom games.

Do the extra buttons on the hori stick get in your way for snk games? Or is it that the neo geo one just feels more familiar? I just bought a region free dreamcast from lik-sang last night. I might have picked one of those Street Fighter pads too but oh well. I still think I'd encounter the same problem. Anyway, so I've got my dreamcast. Next is finding MOTW for a reasonable price and it does not look like that is going to happen. At least I've seen Last Blade 2 cheap. Almost forgot to ask... should I get the japanese motw or north american one?

Yeah I'd agree with that, I grabbed two of those from lik-sang and they are very nice. I must admit I do tend to find using a stick way easier, but that's what I'm used to personally. Funnily enough I actually have one of the Soul Calibur Hori sticks, which I tend to use for Capcom games (but I use the PS2 Neo stick for SNK games). What's even funnier is that I actuallybought it off Klarkus . It's definitely a nice stick anyway, but because of the button layout it's not ideal for all SNK games. Kaz

have you tried the saturn pad or These? I find these types of pads better than the PS2 pad.
