It's much easier to understand if you actually started playing them back in 1994... I'd recommend going back and playing KOF '94 onwards, but you will really need to like slightly more old school fighters to be able to appreciate those games now if you never tried them "back in the day". 94 and 95 do feel dated now, but for me personally they really are still great games and if it wasn't for them there would be no KOF 98 etc! As far as storyline goes, the whole Rugal/Orochi chapter between 94-97 is tops. When it comes to story KOF is also really good when it comes to relationships between many characters... so many rivalries and friendships going on, and that also means lots of fun intro before certain fights and things like that. If you really truly get into KOF then you start to appreciate things like that, but unless you have been a fan for some time it might not grab you straight away  Kaz
