1. Plug the joystick to the controller port 2 and turn the AES on.
2. Press Select + C to enter the debug bios menu and change the options as you wish.
3. Choose Restart from the debug bios menu or press reset on the AES to enable the changes you've made.
4. You can now start the game as player 2 in most games.
5. If you want to start as player 1 switch the joystick back to port 1 without turning the power off. You can change the joystick's port freely when the AES is on. The debug bios doesn't save it's settings if you turn the power off.
Of course it would be easier to have two controllers...
