Well it is a poll for the newer games that have come out, so MS5 should still be in there
Anyways, I was tempted to vote for SvC as I still really enjoy it especially in 2 player, and the game has many nice touches, but overall that game is still glitchy in certain areas that stop it from being awesome. I am still playing it now though (although I've moved onto the PS2 port), and I probably will be for some time.
KOF 2002 was a great game at first and I still stand by my review, but it got a bit boring after extended play. It's funny that after the bashing that KOF 2001 got about the graphics/sound and after everyone said "ooooh we MUST get rid of strikers!!!", people suddenly started to play it more after 2002 came out. Despite this, I still believe that 2002 is a much more solid game, but each to his own I guess.
Samurai Shodown 5 - I'm a massive fan of the series, but to me it still peaked at SS2. SS3 and SS4 are great games in their own right and so is SS5/0, but in my opinion SS2 is still by far the most complete game that SNK has ever made, and I think it speaks volumes about its quality when you look at the amount of people that still play it to death about 10 years after it's original release. Anyway, SS5 does seem like a good title, but I really do think that the old SNK did most of the work on this one (it was rumoured to be in development before they went bust), and Yuki/SNKP carried on where the old SNK left off. That is why certain areas of the game seem a bit rushed. I also don't like the lack of fatalities - it is a minor thing I know, but the old SNK would never have left out such minor details like this. I don't wanna diss the game too much though as I do like it, but I'm yet to get theurge to put some REAL playtime into it.
Matrimelee is a very worthy game I think, and it has an awesome cast of characters, generally great backgrounds, and FANTASTIC crazy-ass music. I liked Noise Factory before, but the soundtrack in this game REALLY made me respect them a whole lot more. One thing that I really like this game for is it's very user friendly combo system, so if you are not in the mood to play a really technical fighter, you can just load this game up and have a blast.
Anyways, to end my rant I will say that my vote goes to Metal Slug 5 as it is a very good all round title. Like most of the SNKP titles it does still seem to lack a little something, but it shows how much things have improved, especially when you hold it up next to MS4. Oh, and it has a ROCKING soundtrack by the Gods at Noise Factory, so that says it all really
. Overall it is a really good title, and pretty much what I want from this kind of thing; really arcadey and simple, but difficult to master and get through the game on one credit (hence lots of replay value in my eyes). GREAT! ;D
