I would suspect that it largely has to do with money in that it really doesnt take much for what is now SNK to code and pump out MVS software, In reality MVS cart prices arent alot in the arcade world and the profit margin for SNK is very high so they will milk it until they cant do it any longer.
Personally I dont expect to see too many more MVS based titles hit the market due to the hardware just not being competitive in the market anymore, I actually expect SNK to drop out of the arcade market completely in the next few years in favor of the home console market, or completely fold alltogether once again. Unless they can really pull a rabbit out a hat so to speak ,they wont be able to survive the ever shrinking arcade industry.
These days it really is a dwindling industry that takes true innovation in game design as well as boatloads of capital to stay afloat ,Judging bye MR Kawasaki's past SNK performance { that would be amassing 38 billion Yen in debt ) I seriously doubt they will get another chance with this should they blow it again.
Gone are the days of corner arcades where it was easy for game companies to make money ,now its all going corporate with places like Dave & Busters and Game Works at least in the US anyway. Places like those have absoutly no interest in fighting games in general and really only want the mega corporation games from people like Namco and Sega since they can get incredible leases on the hardware and the big flashy cabinets will draw the manstream moron to blow $5.00 on a game because the cabinet looks neat.
I think within the next 15 years or so there wont be any arcades left ,at least not the home grown places we all have known and loved. With home game consoles that now rival the arcade games in every way { for the most part } there really is no incentive for the next few generations of younger kids to even bother going to an arcade ,and I would bet that most of them would say all of the arcade games we love are totall crap.
Hate to say it but I think all of this is inevitable
