Kaz summed it up pretty nicely.
MVS is better than an emulator for the same reason a real kidney is better than a plastic one. They might look similar, but only one of them really works.
*Waits for applause to die down for his excellent analogy*
Emulators may have pulled you into the neo scene, but you'll never really experience it without owning one. There is just something about that exclusivity that makes you feel great. There is no bad blood on these forums for those who use emulators, but there is always respect for those who contribute to the real thing.
As for actually getting into the scene, a supergun may be worth it if you're in Europe. If you're in the US you have a couple of options that may actually save you a little bit of money (European superguns are much cheaper because of the power supply and video output). I have a cabinet as does Candycab, and if you get a good deal on one I would certainly suggest going that route. Seiryu is in the EU and I think has a home system, and if you want to go MVS then you can always get a phantom-1 as the newest version seems very reliable. Mysteriozone has a very interesting MVS set-up AND I think he has a home system, too. He's in the US. Just a few ideas to toss around.
Oh and welcome to the forums.
