Hey all,
People have suggested doing Metal Slug as the next game discussion, so here it is. I'm actually gonna do one Metal Slug every couple of days until we have covered all of them. Please forgive if I am rambling more than usual or just plain incoherent right now, I'm a little ill at the moment and have been in bed most of the day... still waking up
. Here goes:

Well, where can I start? The grandaddy of all the MS games, and probably still one of the best! Some people actually claim this to be the best one, as the enemies are all human, whereas they added crazy things like aliens and stuff later on. I don't think this is *the* best in the series, but it's still great. After all these years I still haven't tired of my MVS cart of this game, and I still go back to it to try and get through it on as few credits as possible (I've one credited it a couple of times now).
Although good graphics don't necessarily make a great game, boy do they add a lot to this one. The animation in the Metal Slug games is sitll some of the best you will find anywhere and also some of the funniest. There's a certain sadistic satisfaction that you feel after killing your enemies in many of the ridiculously over the top ways that this game offers... set them on fire with a flame thrower, run them over in a tank, get in close and use your knife, disintegrate them with a shotgun, or one of many others. The Slug tank looks especially great, and really reminds me of Bonaparte from Dominion Tank Police, which is definitely a good thing.
Speaking of the shotgun, is this not the best weapon ever or what? I still remember the first time I ever picked up one of these babies on the 2nd stage... the way enemies just explode when you hit them with it and the way it takes apart tanks with such ease gives you a great sense of power. Gotta love it
The only bad aspect of this particular Slug game is that it is quite short, and that most of the bosses are very unbalanced... by that, I mean that you can defeat almost any of them by using the tank/grenade trick, where you hold down while in the tank and keep throwing grenades. You can throw them really fast like this and this allows you to destroy bosses like the tank on stage 3 in a matter of seconds. This could be a good or a bad thing depending on your outlook...
Discuss! ;D

ps I will start adding some of the comments in these threads to the actual reviews on the site soon! I keep forgetting to do this...
