Home version is totally free, and you get constant updates. Picked up a lot of tiny bits and pieces that Norton never found when I had problems ages ago. I personally use that and zone alarm free as my firewall, but I also have a router which has a hardware firewall, so that helps a bit. As for the ad/spyware, I usually just use ad-aware.
I'll have to check out that program you mentioned Goemon.
