Those exclusive sections aren't a bad idea but you'll have to promote them. People won't be up to contributing if they don't know about the benefits. Something that I did notice though (as I have a similar thing running on the forums that I mod): most people go through some effort to get in, then get used to it, and soon become inactive again, or at least don't contribute like you would want them to.Yeah that's definitely something to think about... I suppose if people disappear for ages and don't post then I can always take the "l337" status away
Personally I find this karma thingie amusing, nothing more. ;D
Yeah same here really, but you know how some people get obsessed with it (and post counts!). This is part of the reason I'd like to remove smite so people don't start smiting members for the hell of it. Plus if I do that section, as I say, it will be based on more than just karma rating... I might even just hand out access to people who just help out or go out of their way to do something for other users, like submitting reviews or giving advice etc etc. I haven't really thought about it properly yet, but it is something I'll work out.
However, I won't say to people anything like "reach karma level 30 and you'll get access"... I'll just say "be helpful and/or stick around and post you'll get access"
One of the things I could do (since I'm not confident writing reviews for all of the Saturn and Dreamcast stuff I have) is contribute more in the anime forum. Mainly posting stuff regarding the lastest fansub releases.
Yeah that would be cool, hopefully it would help kick off some discussion. The only thing is we need to somehow get members in there to reply to your posts, cos I'd hate for you to waste loads of time posting about some of the latest good releases, and then having no-one reply.
Btw, there is a new option in PBV4 that lets you create a sub-board for each forum section... a section where people post info about the latest releases and suggest could be made into a sub section at some point, and then the main section left for discussing other anime matters. Maybe not worth it now, but something to think about?
the smileys link doesn't show up on mine though
My bad... I was trying to fix it so the "click here for more smileys" link showed up NEXT to the smileys instead of at the top of the page, but it's not working right now. Someone on another forum was giving me some help in doing it, so I'm just waiting for a reply
It sounds simple, but the code is in javascript so I have absolutely no idea how to move something to be inside the smileys table on proboards. I'm hopeless when it comes to these scripts really
regarding the ngfl site discussion, i'm not into that idea much seeing that there were downtimes and we don't have much to show for that idea unless of course, SNK-Playmore really doles out game releases to the max.
the arcade thingy is an ok additional feature to play around with just as long as it doesn't mess up the current scripts.

When I say sneak previews I don't necessarily mean news about games or screenshots etc. I don't believe in withholding stuff like that from people, as in my opinion it should ALL be shared with everyone, posted on the main site and in the neo geo forum section. What I mean is stuff that is being worked on on the actual site... like when I was doing the fan art section, the first person I showed was you, and then a few other mods, and you guys gave some suggestions on it. I've done this in the past with reviews that I have written too, but it would be kinda cool to also share stuff like this with some more visitors on the site so they can get a sneak preview and make suggestions etc, before it goes public. People in that section wouldn't HAVE to contribute (just a few comments on stuff we work on would be cool enough), but that would hopefully be the general idea.
I'm really into the community thing, always have been... so more than anything I want a bit more interactivity between the site and it's visitors if possible. I think one of the coolest things we did in the past was when all the mods pitched in and made that Matrimelee combo FAQ (remember that?
As for the arcade thing, it's just a fun idea... I'm mainly up for doing it if we could find a way of recording members high scores (without having to trust people if they say they got the high score and that the screenshot they took isn't photoshopped ;D), but it might be fun to throw it up there anyway. Don't worry cos I always check the codes on my test forum located elsewhere, or even the super secret test section on this very board (bet none of you can find it
what if we put up another foreign language thread? ;D i remember proboards not allowing that (i think...) so i reckon that's where the other "idea: comes in
just a few referrals for targeted audiences and we might tbring back the ol' days ;D
Yeah I must admit that if I remember right it may have been me that contributed to killing off the Dutch thread originally...
Having a Dutch thread (or similar) in English language is fine though, but I know that sort of defeats the object
