Sorry, I have to disagree with you on that one mate
It does look very poor by todays standards, but back then it actually was decent. AoF2 I didn't like though because of the insane difficulty of the CPU, but AoF3 wasn't too bad... not great but still reasonable entertainment for a few hours. That game still has better animation than almost any other Neo Geo game as well, second only to MotW, although it is damn close.
Anyway, as I said before, I'd still like to see another AoF game, but they would have to change a lot of stuff and make the game engine a lot more solid to make it worthwhile today.

for the most part i agree, you're right aof 1 may seem shite now, but for their time they were pretty pioneering. even now, how many other fighting games can you think of that limits your special moves like that? or shows actual injury on the sprite? even the gameplay, while ridged and flawed, the concept of haveing little mini combos which can be pulled off by pressing the same button a few times (can't remember the technical term) was clearly an influence on subsequent games by other companies, though perhaps most notably tekken.
the characters may be ripped off, but its hard to think of any fighting game around at the time which didn't have the usual ryu/ken/guile rip offs. admittedly some of the more original ones among them were terribile like wang and that boxer with the fireball, micky (?). others however, like king and kasumi were pretty fresh and have been rightly recognised for it by their longevity.
as for aof3 i really like it, like kaz said, the graphics are spot on and consistent. the gameplay and difficulty are a lot better than any of its predecessors. as for aof4, i think its too late for sequel to be honest. i mean its been almost ten years now. time in which other games have already refined snks ideas for them to the point where it'd hard to do anything truly eye opening without being really radical to the extent that the game would be almost unrecognisable. something that could alienate a lot of long-term fans, which judgeing by its current line-up, snkp can't afford to do and thus won't.
