If you're talking about audio CDs it depends on how intensive the protection is. Audiograbber works for general copyright protection. If something is really stubborn and no software worked, I would probably rip an ISO using blindwrite, run the ISO on a virtual drive, then extract the audio from that.
But try audiograbber. There is a pretty decent warez/freeware version out. Or at least there was.
