If the guy left a disc in it while it was shipped it most likely knocked the lens out of adustment ,I did the same thing with a Laser Disc player while moving some years ago.
I would try searching the net for any laser related 3DO info ....you may be able to adjust it ? Im not sure since Ive never had any issues with my Panasonic unit.
