OK, being a Liverpool fan, I fucking hate Machester Utd. But sometimes you still have to feel sympathy:
Looks painful... this is why (most people in the UK would have seen this by now):
His ankle was dislocated, and leg broken at the same time. Now that's gotta hurt.
Admittedly I never liked the guy much as a footballer, but hopefully he'll recover quick - get well soon Smithy!
