yeah sure i could use that... though i think my lens could use some cleaning since the area is a bit too dusty

There's 2 disc read error FAQ's there that cover cleaning the lens and adjusting the laser, although you might want to be careful about adjusting the voltage as they recommend as you could REALLY screw up your PS2's laser, especially if you don't know what you are doing and don't have an oscilloscope to measure the voltage. I can't seem to find the guide about adjusting the white cog, but if you open your PS2 in the way they tell you, you will see the white cog next to the laser. Make sure you mark the original position and then try turning it a few clicks either way... sometimes this is enough to fix your problem to a certain extent. Make sure you don't adjust the angle too much though, as if it is too high the laser might be able to actually touch the disc and scratch it! You'll have to experiment with the different setting to find one that works the best, even if it it a pain in the backside doing that, just make sure to put the DVD drives cover back on properly before you try a game again. Do this at your own risk btw (like I did), as I take no blame if you break the PS2 even more
a few questions though: is the PS2 lens more sensitive than the typical CD player/PS1 or is it the thing that repairmen tell people so that we have to always go to them for cleaning dirty lens to protect their business?
In my experience Sony always have used cheap parts ever since the PS1 and I've had tonnes of trouble so yeah... it does seem more sensitive. My PS1 broke down many times back in the day, my PS2 has broken down through no fault of my own, so yeah it can be very flaky. Best thing to do is to try an stop it from happening in the first place... clean the lens and your discs from time to time to try and minimise strain on the laser (cos if it can't read discs properly then it doesn't help) and don't leave the PS2 on if you are not using it cos the laser will still be on and it adds to the wear and tear a bit. That's about all I can recommend really, but problems do seem to occur often with the PS2, blame Sony for that...
any PS2 cleaner in the market ? does DVD cleaner work well enough for the PS2?
I never saw a PS2 cleaner before, I just used the DVD cleaner that my sister has for her DVD player and it seemed to work ok. Failing that you can clean the lens manually like they described in the guides above, but that would mean taking apart your PS2 and more risk ;D
pardon the many questions for i need to get my gaming fix aside from the CAPCOM games... (i've been playing them a lil' too much for my tastes
lol
