Yeah I've heard the whole "but you didn't understand it" argument from the more hardcore Matrix fans, and although that is true in many cases (you should have seen the reaction of many dumb people I know after watching Revolutions 
), it isn't the only reason for disliking the trilogy. I think more than anything, the main reason you are going to love it or hate it is whether or not you actually *like* what the Wachowskis were trying to do with it... I do personally, but I can see why not everyone does.
One thing's for sure though, there's enough stuff in there (including the unexplained bits of story) to keep you talking about it for a while after (which I enjoy)... and no matter what you thought of the movies in general, the action scenes are damn impressive, particularly in Reloaded ;D
