oh ok
i've heard the rounds they use in AR these days makes a lil burst once it penetrates, which is used to lessen the effectiveness of bulletproof vests (though it's more of a hearsay and i haven't confirmed it myself since i don't go around guns and/or the military/police a lot.) if it's true, what are these things called?
here's a funny fact: it was called armalite because it was made by "Armando Literal" (hence "ArmaLite"). since he's a filipino, his gun design is the standard issue here in the philippines. ;D
I know when I was in the Marines the Geneva Convention AKA the rules of engagement only allowed for Full Metal Jacketed rounds so if indeed that is true its new to me. It is possible to make a jacketed round that will essentially explode upon impact as this has been done in the past in various calibers.
No telling what they are using now days , heh its not like they would tell the public the whole truth anyway, the depleted uranium 20mm rounds in use are proof of that. In that case the uranium actually causes the shell to melty through the targets armour.
They also tend to cause cancer in people who are hit with fragments and survive { nice bye product huh } I dont think this could be applied to a small arms rounds due to the low muzzle velocity, but I know there are some 308. rounds out there that will go clean through body armour like its ricepaper and those are scary as hell if you ask me. Those arent in service due to the Geneva Convention ,which is why the millitary stuck to the 223. vs the 308.
Pretty interesting factoid there bye the way
My cousin recently married a woman from the Phillipines ,you can check out some of his trip over there on his site here if you want to.
