You were correct on the first try ... its Armalite , that is what the "AR" means in AR-15 , I know that the Rangers like to use Armalite derived M-4's vs the Colt model. In effect every Colt M series rifle is an Armalite derived design since to this day they own the liscensing to the overall base design and anything that is derived from it. I myself am half owner with my step father in a real AR-15 223. that actually was second or third run in 1957 or 58 ? I cant remember at the moment ...as well as a genuine 9MM Uzi rifle { that being the bigger one with the folding stock not the pistol type } for the most part the Uzi is incredibly useless even when aming over about 40 yards { fun to shoot though },whereas the AR could hit a flea in the ass at 75 yards with no problem.... really sweet gun that just needs to be a 308. to be perfect
