I'm wondering if anyone here tried Turbografx-16/PC-Engine or PC-Engine CD, which are great old-sk001 system in their own right, better than SNES/Super Famicom in performance, and the PC-Engine CD is WAY better due to great 2D (and sometimes semi-3D) graphics and CD-quality audio sound (better BGMs!). come to think of it, it's kinda like Neo-Geo come to think of it. i don't know if Turbografx-16's fared well in the US, but i read that PC-Engine (Japan version ofthe system) sold extremely well in Japan (judging from the games, it seems that such fanfare from japan is not much of a surprise
).
one thing that got me into this system was because i hear PC-Engine CD version of Castlevania ("Dracula X : Rondo of Blood". japanese only i'm afraid) one of the best castlevania games of all time. for old-sk001 style of castlevania (non-SotN style), it's either that or Super Castlevania IV (depends on taste). the SNES "Dracula X" is based on the PC-Engine version actually, with Richter also in it. it's a great game too, but it pales in comparison to the PC-Engine one due to numerous reasons:
1. Richter controls better in the PC-Engine one, with the backflip very easy to do; whereas the SNES version Richter controls a bit heavy (just like the PSX Richter w/o special moves like the "F,F" run).
2. Better special weapon effects, and also the Holy Cross Item Crash looks has the cool crucifix effects intact on the PC-Engine version.
3. The game is harder, more and darker looking stages with lots of alternate routes, secrets, and stages (and i do mean lots!). %maps too!
4. The there are more bosses, not to mention cooler and meaner looking too! (you may recognize some making it on SotN like the minotaur and werewolf... and [the phallic named] Shaft!)
5. Better BGM! (nearly like SotN-quality scores and riffs, unlike the Snes' digitized sound).
6. Anime Cutscenes!!
7. And finally, you can use as Maria! (some stages ca only be reached if you use Maria. you have to rescue her first to use her though)
here are a few shots i made in the emu (in which i was able to play the ISO of the game ;D ):
Maria in-game

Dracula in cutscene

Maria in anime cutscene!

Richter in anime cutscene!

Richter and Dracula in the cutscene!

Richter in-game before dracula fight (familiar stairway, eh? ;D)

you all gotta try this game out!! also the system too, since most games are nice too, like this ranma game i tried out with cool anime cutscenes:

nice, eh? ;D
