Half Life is worth owning for the great aftermarket / homebrew mods alone , plus its a great shooter aswell. HL 2 is a bad word due to all that "Steam" BS 
Diablo II is a fantastic game and even better with Lord of Destruction, I need to start using my LOD account again and do some online hacking ;D
