Too many consoles on the market, there's never really been room for more than two consoles to truly thrive and have great success. NES/MS, SNES/MD, PS1/Saturn then PS1/N64, PS2/DC then PS2/Xbox and so on... you could say that we now have PS2/Xbox/GC, but from what I know the Cube sales aren't exactly sky high.
If the final console ended up looking like that though, that is quite sexy
