can't help you there since it's been a long time since i played any SCalibur game (darned screwy PS2 modding!) 
i do a lot of combos on Maxi but i do it in a rather instinctual manner, which is like, if i see him do this move, then i know if i press this he'll do this move next... not exactly button mashing but more of knowing what comes next, and i'm no expert
. yet the best thing about it is that it keeps your opponent on their toes (assuming he's no expert too)
