Final Fantasy X-Help!

thanks a lot mate ummm ... just wondering ... where in the game should i have already acquired these abilities (protect & shell) i mean state any place, boss, person, creature anywhere in the game where i should have had it.

I am suggesting after the battle with Maester Seymour, the goavva. The guy with tha cool& long blue hair. Where u have to battle him and his aeon Anima. Damn there powerfull.

So where u suggesting?
