Hi all,I've been downloading dozens of different versions of Metal Slug 4 and SVC Chaos for days now. I have so many and can't work out which ones are actually good. RomCenter doesn't have any updated .dats. The only one they have for Metal Slug 4 is a non-MAME one.
My emulator of choice is winkawaks. I could never get any of the 1.46 hacked versions to work. I'm using Windows 2000, so maybe that's the problem. I did get v1.45 working ok though.
There are so many versions, hacks etc for the above 2 games I'm totally lost as to if I have a proper version of not. I can get both games to play in kawaks but for peace of mind I want to know what I've got.

Hi,
RomCenter won't verify the roms unless a specific dat
file is written for it. You won't be able to download it
from inside RomCenter because you are not suppose to
be playing those games on the emulators yet.
I think if you look at my post in:
kof2k2 and mms4 on winkawaks?
Thread that might answer your question. For the
modified Winkawaks, the roms data are all in the
asr.dat file located in WinKawaks root directory. Each
rom is seperated by the "%" line. Open the asr.dat file
in notepad and you'll see what I mean.
As for version, from what I have seen:
xxx = Rom is encrypted.
xxxp = Rom prototype
xxxn = Rom has decrypted C (Graphic) roms.
xxxnd = Rom is fully decrypted (Graphic and Program).
And then you have regions such as: u, e, and j
u = USA
e = Europe or early version (either or)
j = japan
There are more but that is just off the top of my head
and they might not be fully correct either.
Hope this helps some,
Frugal.
