I don't agree though personally, although I know a few people on the net that would agree with you. Personally I think it sucks ass as a real competitive game, mainly due to the glitches and inconsistency in hit detection at times. But as a fun game between players of average skill it is still pretty damn good. As for being ugly, I guess that's down to personal taste as well - it's a long way from being the best looking game on the Neo Geo, but it isn't that bad. I think most of the Capcom side look pretty good (some like Demitri look especially good), whereas the SNK side (mostly) look the same as they have done since about 1996

The backgrounds are mostly decent too and I kind of like the sparse feeling that they have, but I know I'm probably in the minority there. Overall it isn't exceptional, but I don't think it is as bad as some people out there make it out to be. Hopefully the sequel will improve on every aspect, much the same as CvS2 did with CvS1.
