Yeah the balance is pretty bad, especially with the boss characters, but it doesn't stop the game from being very enjoyable in single player for a while, and then GREAT fun in vs when two average skilled players are playing.
I must admit, this would not be a great game for tounament play though... very highly skilled players would probably pick the game to death, especially with the occasional hit detection probs
