For some reason I actually kinda like the backgrounds the way they are. There's one or two slightly lame ones, but the majority of them are very well done in my opinion, and as they are fairly plain it keeps your attention on the fighters themselves. The best one has to be the forest though - great music and a nice looking background that is slightly reminiscent of Marco's stage in MotW.
