Actually i find the characters to be a bit smaller than then in kof, i switched between SvC & Kof 98 last night comparing differences and though the characters sprites don't look worse they do seem a bit smaller, same happens when i compare kof2k2 to past kof's.
About the backrounds being close, some backrounds are like that like Nude Palace (my fav. level of the game) but not all of them. For the most part i think most of the backrounds are really dull, though things are getting better though with snkp imo cause where in kof2k1 & 2k2 i didn't like any of the backrounds in this game i like about 3.
